Pet Ownership is not as easy as it seems. Yes, that cute little puppy in the window is very tempting but that doesn't mean you should bring him or her home. This rash behaviour leads to many homeless pets - pets with no homes and no one to love. Many people do not realize that the initial cost of a pet means nothing when compared to the maintenance costs. Proper health care is expensive!

Before you decide to bring home a new pet, you have to do tons and tons of research. Find out what breed is right for you – be it a mixed or purebred. Find out what age is right for you – be it a puppy or a senior. Once you have settled on the breed, you have to decide whether or not you want to rescue or purchase one. There are many wonderful pets in shelters and rescues that are waiting for a second chance. If you decide to purchase a puppy, make sure you find a reputable breeder that loves and cares for their dogs. Never buy a puppy from a pet store no matter how cute they look. All pet store puppies come from puppy mills which generate puppies like a factory. The conditions are disgusting! If you are looking for a breeder, make sure you visit and talk to them. Breed clubs can often refer you to a reputable breeder. Attending dog shows can also expose you to different breed and give you the chance to meet different breeders.

On this page, I have attempted to gather a number of resources that I have found to be useful in the last several years. Most of these links relates to Maltese and Shih Tzu as they are my love. American Kennel Club (AKC) The American Kennel Club website. The only reputable registry in the US.		Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) The Canadian Kennel Club website. This is the equivalent of AKC in Canada.
Prunia Dog Breed Selector The results do not seem to be very accurate. There appears to be a limited number of breeds and too many questions related to food.		BestDog Breed Selector A great Dog Breed Selector Test. Nice set of questions with good results.
iVillage Breed Selector Wonderful test with a great layout. The questions make complete sense but my results were a little off.		Dog Selector Great set of questions. Answers resulted in very different breeds.
Pet Net Select a Dog Good Questions. An average list of breeds as results.		Pet Planet Dog Selector Great questions but some are tailored to the UK. Maltese and Shih Tzu not in my results.
